The Capital Grille in Charlotte has launched their new Winter Lunch Plates menu. Like their past seasonal lunch menus, you get a 3-course lunch for $18.

New items on the menu are clam chowder, roasted red pepper soup, Waygu cheeseburger, and roasted root vegetables.

While I got to taste a smorgasbord of everything and it was all delicious, if I had to choose, I’d go with the trio combo of:

• Clam Chowder (Perfectly creamy and chunky, the soup reminds this New England girl of home.)
• Mini Tenderloin Sandwiches (Sandwiched in brioche with Boursin cheese and mushrooms, these sliders are a winner. Be sure to order them done medium rare!)
• Truffle Fries (I am an addict. Can’t. Stop. Eating. These.)

And, of course, I’d add on a dessert order of either the cheesecake or coconut cream pie.

Take a look:

The Chick-fil-A located in South End (Charlotte, NC) is hosting an open house on Thursday, Jan. 12, from 9 to 11 a.m., to taste and see their newest products: Grilled Nuggets (on the Kid’s Menu) and a new ooey-gooey, chocolate chip cookie to be launched this year.

If the new items are anything like the past items CFA has launched in recent years (spicy chicken sandwich, milkshakes, etc), they’re sure to be a hit.

Start your dieting now to get ready for next year’s Charlotte Restaurant Week.

The 2012 dates for Queen’s Feast are January 20-29 and July 20-29.

To spread the holiday cheer, Starbucks is offering buy-one-get-one-free holiday drinks on Thursday, Nov. 17,  between the hours of 2pm and 5pm.

I’d recommend getting two peppermint mochas.

The smell of cumin, beef and beans will waft through Plaza Midwood and surrounding Charlotte, N.C., neighborhoods as the 8th Annual Plaza Midwood-Chantilly Chili Cook-Off gets underway on Saturday, Oct. 8.

The outdoor day-long event, held at the MMR Racing Parking lot off Central Avenue, will feature a chili competition for both amateurs and restaurant chefs, live music from local bands, a raffle and a motorcycle show.

Chili cook-off contestants will vie for trophies in three categories: Red chili, Green chili, and Taster’s Choice, which will be judged by the public.

Local bands performing are:

  • Belmont Playboys
  • Wiggle Wagons
  • Modern Primitives
  • Buck Mountain Stranglers
  • Haywire
  • Ryan Bach Band
  • The Loose Lugnuts

Tickets to attend the event cost $10 for adults and children 6 years old and up, and can be purchased at the door. All proceeds will go to Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region.

Gates open at noon. Get there early to taste all the chili before it’s gone (and don’t forget your Pepto and Tums).

Four-legged friends on leashes are welcome.

As part of the “Share Our Strength- Dine Out for No Kid Hungry” campaign, P.F. Chang’s will be donating 50 cents of every order of Lettuce Wraps to the charity (through Sept. 24, 2011).

On a side note, I just recently rekindled my love for P.F. Chang’s this past weekend. While it felt oddly strange and wrong for me (an Asian) to be eating at a faux Asian restaurant, I can say I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience there. Don’t judge me. The food is good.

In celebration of their 1-year anniversary, Zink. American Kitchen will be offering special anniversary deals for Facebook fans. There will also be free tastings of their flatbreads from 6 pm to 7 pm.

I’m not into football, nor South Carolina or East Carolina. But here’s a tip for those of you who are:

Moe’s staff will be wearing USC football jerseys in an effort to help paint Charlotte garnet. The festivities will continue at the EpiCentre  all night with live music at the Pavilion and specials from other EpiCentre businesses.”
